Domestic, West Sussex
Set in the heart of a classic coastal town in West Sussex, this beautifully modernised home in Worthing is a masterclass in balancing heritage character with contemporary living.
As part of an extensive renovation, the brief called for bespoke steel double doors that could define space when required, yet disappear effortlessly when openness was preferred. Our solution was a pair of glazed steel double doors with fixed side panels, engineered to swing a full 180 degrees, folding neatly back against the glazing to create a generous, uninterrupted opening between the main hall and adjoining living space.
The design itself is deliberately restrained: a simplistic classical cross-bar configuration, subtly elevated with a hint of Art Deco glamour. Finished in an ultra-durable anodised bronze powder coat, the doors bring warmth and depth while retaining the crisp precision expected of architectural steel. This luxurious finish was carefully chosen to complement the home’s layered interior palette of metallic light fittings, rich walnut cabinetry, and neutral yet tactile soft furnishings.
To maintain a quietly sophisticated aesthetic, minimalist push-pull handles were specified, paired with a magnetic stay-closed system. This removed the need for a traditional lever latch, allowing the doors to remain visually clean and architecturally composed.
The result is a set of bespoke steel doors that feel both timeless and contemporary, perfectly aligned with the client’s blend of classic and modern interior design, and ideally suited to elegant coastal living.
